TRIK-ini meets the needs of triathlon participants but may be too form-fitting for the ordinary cyclist.
The TRIK-ini top by SkirtSports is designed for triathlon wear, something cyclists would do well to keep in mind. This top is essentially a bathing suit top, skin tight and constructed of Speedsilk for its quick-dry properties. With its interior bra pocket and racing style back, the TRIK-ini top suits the needs of triathlon participants well. Jumping from pool to bicycle, the triathlon woman wants clothes that stick close in water and dry quickly once she’s hopped her bike. That pocket is convenient for carrying a tube of gel. For many women seeking ordinary cycling gear, however, the TRIK-ini top may be a bit too snug and form-fitting.
The TRIK-ini top is made to fit with TRIK-ini bottoms, fitting just over the waistline for complete trunk coverage. It has a built in bra for support . The TRIK-ini top comes in two colors: classic black with pink trim or pink with gray trim. TRIK-ini highlights femininity, creating a curvy image with a fine line of color piping emphasizing the waistline. For young, fit women open to form-fitting cycling gear, the TRIK-ini top may be a hit. Those more conscious of their shape might find it a bit too revealing. Older women and those with a less than ideal figure would likely hesitate to appear in public in the TRIK-ini given the availability of more flattering options in cycling attire.
TRIK cycling gear is made by SkirtSports, a 3 year old company owned by Nicole DeBoom. DeBoom, a comptetive swimmer who made the Olympic trials in 1988 and swam on the varsity team at Yale University, progressed to triathlons where she has focused on short-distance triatholon racing events and garnered 3 first-place medals. She developed the SkirtSports clothing line to help women feel good about themselves while participating in competitive cycling and triathlon sports. Her original skirt concept rocked the cycling attire market.
It will be interesting to see what kind of bike tops 35 year old DeBoom is designing 10 years from now. For, while her philosophy is to think young and feel young, she’s no more immune to the physical effects of gravity and aging than the rest of us. Mature women seeking cycling gear for non-triathlon purposes will likely pass on the TRIK-ini top when shopping for attire.
